How To Stop/block/disable/turn Off Windows 10 Updates
The points below help you decide which one is right for you. Once you’ve done what you want, you can turn updates back on or pause updates, and these steps are still shown.
If you are not sure whether to stop or pause, you might consider stopping Windows updates is the recommended method, which is included in Windows 10.
However, I show you how to completely stop Windows 10 automatic updates (this cannot logically be done through Settings).
Windows 10 Update Stuck (frozen) For More Than 2 Hours
If you’re in the middle of doing some work, the best option is probably to hold off on updating for now.
If you want to do more than just pause automatic Windows updates, you need to stop the Windows built-in update service. This will disable Windows updates instead of pausing them.
The file to run is the extension to find the services running on your computer, a file called “services.msc” (msc for Microsoft Saved Console file).

Since it is a long list and we are looking for “Windows Update”, click on the name to sort in order to get the one we want at the top of the list.
To stop all Windows 10 updates we need Windows services, click on the title to make it near the top of the list.

Admittedly, this isn’t something you can do at the last minute when you have so many files open and you don’t want to restart yet.
Another option is to set up a Metered Connection for your regular channel to the Internet, preventing it from downloading updates for Windows and other apps (the purpose is not to pay for a metered connection).
It’s kind of a workaround, it might limit other uses you don’t want to limit, and it doesn’t prevent OneDrive from syncing.
