On the NFC side, it looked like the Saints would soon clinch the only remaining NFC spot. However, the 49ers rallied on a 17-0 run in the second half against the Rams and won 27-24 in overtime. The 49ers will be the No. 6 seed, having won while the Rams dropped to No. 4, but still won the NFC West with the Cardinals losing to the Seahawks 38-30.

The AFC East is becoming a very competitive division for the first time in 20 years. It looked like the Josh Allen-led Bills would take the torch from Brady’s Patriots and dominate for the next 10-plus years, but after a huge offseason from the Miami Dolphins, the Jets’ excellent draft and reloaded. Patriots led by QB Mac Jones, this division could be quite interesting. Considered by many to be the best team in football, Buffalo will be in first place in the division again this year, but the Dolphins will pass New England for second place, and a Week 16 game could decide it. As for the Jets, there’s a lot of improvement and a lot to be excited about, but not a huge jump in wins.

Matt Ryan will finally be the bridge quarterback who can get the job done for the Colts, behind the dominance of Jonathan Taylor, of course. However, Derrick Henry’s dominance is unmistakable, and assuming a healthy season, the Titans will be a must-win with the Colts. As for the Jaguars and Texans, both young teams will make strides, with the Jags a little more. Jags QB Trevor Lawrence will be able to start over with a real coach and new weapons on offense and defense, Texas signal caller Davis Mills will be able to keep his job with some wins, but his team is still nowhere near the playoffs. – still

The AFC North is the most competitive division as long as teams stay healthy and out of trouble. It could continue to be a dogfight. After producing the AFC champions, the No. 2 playoff team, and two plus eight win teams, the division improved as the Browns made a splash for QB Deshaun Watson, the Bengals filled the last few holes and Baltimore got healthy and scored again. great suggestion. The Chargers have finally put together a complete team on defense, and that, along with another jump from Justin Herbert, leading the quarterback line, will lead the Chargers to the top spot this year. The Chiefs are going to have a rough year by their standards, but they will finish with 11+ wins barring the departure of Tyreek Hill. The two teams that now share 10 wins, the Raiders and Broncos, are also the bottom two in the division. The Raiders have the edge over Russell Wilson and the Broncos. Adams and Derek Carr’s friendship excels along with their new pass-rushing duo, overcoming the Broncos’ newly loaded lineup. However, the possibility of the four teams making the playoffs, or being able to completely overturn the rankings, is very much alive.
