My Furnace Blower Won T Turn On

My Furnace Blower Won T Turn On – The Home Improvement Stack Exchange is a question-and-answer site for contractors and serious hobbyists. It only takes a minute to sign up.

I have a carrier furnace with a low speed fan blower motor that won’t shut off no matter how long I run it. I checked that removing the G wire on the control board did not change anything. This should rule out a thermostat problem. I checked the oven limit switch and it seems fine with good continuity on the two switch parts (the button part and the actual part that holds the hot zone). The heater works fine, it turns itself off when it reaches temperature, but it turns on the high speed fan. I have checked for continuity on the limit switch fusible link and it has good continuity. I have read that there is no problem with the high limit switch of the furnace because the heater works anyway. I pulled the low speed fan wire from the control board and it successfully shut down the low speed fan, but I hear a slight buzzing noise from the HFR or heater fan relay. So is the rest of the problem just the control board or am I missing something that I should check?

The blower in your furnace is responsible for moving air throughout your home. So, it’s no surprise that if your furnace blower isn’t working, your home isn’t getting enough cooling or heating.

Things You Can Do When Your Furnace Won’t Turn On

There are all kinds of things that can prevent a blower from working. Some are due to the blower motor itself. Others prevent the blower motor from operating due to furnace components.

My Furnace Blower Won T Turn On

In this article, I’ll go over what to do if your furnace blower won’t turn on. I’ll go over the different parts you should check and how to diagnose common blower motor problems.

The first thing to do if your furnace blower won’t turn on is to turn your thermostat to fan-only mode.

Sometimes Blower Does Not Turn On

Fan-only mode (also known as fan mode) does not heat or cool your home. It only turns on the blower. If your blower won’t turn off in fan-only mode, you’ll need to do more troubleshooting.

If you suspect problems with your thermostat, you can bypass the thermostat and check the upper controls directly on the control panel.

Connecting the R and G terminals on your furnace’s control board will override the unit to operate in fan-only mode.

Keep Your Furnace From Causing A Fire

Jump the R and G terminals together on a fuse control board to override fan operation.

The last thing to check before proceeding is the error code of your oven. There should be a small indicator light on the control panel of your oven. The indicator light flashes in a sequence depending on the condition of the oven.

For example, if there is a problem with the oven, the light will flash in a specific sequence to tell you what is preventing the oven from working.

If no problems are detected with your furnace, the light will usually flash slowly and steadily. The specific light flash codes are different for each stove, so check your owner’s manual for your stove’s flash codes.

If your furnace blower won’t turn on, the next thing you should do is check the circuit breaker.

An oven circuit breaker is a safety device that protects your appliances and cables from excessive current.

Why Is My Furnace Constantly Running

Depending on what the furnace is doing, monitor your furnace’s startup procedure to see if the breaker trips again at a certain point.

If your fuse continues to trip, there is a problem with your furnace. See my article below for information on tripping the furnace from the circuit breaker.

For example, if the blower motor is stuck, it will start to overheat and overload the motor.

When the motor is overloaded, the power of the motor is cut off. This helps prevent the engine from burning and burning.

Most blower motors have a motor overload built in to protect them from burning out. Overload can be reset automatically or manually.

If you have a manual reset motor overload, you will see a small red button on the side of your motor. This is the blower motor reset button. The red button comes out when the engine is overloaded. You must press the button to reset the overload and restart your blower motor.

Automatic reset motor overloads do not have a button on them. Instead, an automatic reset motor overload is reset after the motor cools down. You have to wait some time and then the engine overload will reset itself.

Here’s an important tip: If your blower motor’s overload is tripping, there is a problem with the blower motor. There may be a mechanical problem with the blower. Are the bearings bad? Is the blower wheel stuck?

If you can’t figure out why your blower motor is tripping on overload, it may be time to call an HVAC professional to check it out.

A capacitor is required to start the blower motor. Without a capacitor, a PSC blower motor will not turn on. The condenser helps to smooth the rotation of the blower motor.

The easiest way to tell if you have a PSC blower motor is to see if it has a capacitor. Blower motor capacitors are usually oval shaped and mounted on the side of the blower motor.

One sign of a fan belt out of alignment or tension is a screeching noise when your furnace is running.

A sliding noise can be heard from the fan belt over the belt. Fan belt slippage is caused by incorrect adjustment or incorrect tension.

Why My Furnace Won’t Turn On? How To Fix? [with Pictures]

First, let’s talk about the heating cycle of your HVAC system. Understanding how your furnace works is valuable, especially if you want to know what is preventing your furnace from delivering heat. So let’s get started!

When the indoor temperature drops below the set temperature of the thermostat, the thermostat signals the control board inside the furnace to start the heating process. The combustion process starts when the gas valve is opened and the ignition is switched on. A fire burning in the furnace heats the air from room temperature, which then distributes the heated air through your air ducts into your home. Finally, the flue gases from combustion travel through the heat exchanger and leave your home through the flue.

Diagnosing A Bad Blower Motor: 8 Easy Things To Check

If you have a heating system that won’t start, you should check the furnace power switch. The oven switch is the power source and is usually located next to or on the side of the oven. It resembles a light switch. First, check that your furnace starts by confirming that the switch is in the “on” position. If the switch is flipped down to the “off” position, your oven will not turn on.
