2. You will learn thirteen vowels. These vowels are not A, E, I, O and U. They are pronounced AH, EH, EE, OH, OO and AY. Almost all vowels are symbols that are below the letter, above the letter, or next to the letter. As we teach each vowel, I will tell you exactly where it is.

3. Promise me you’ll make cards for every letter and vowel. Total 22 + 4 + 5 + 13 = 44 cards. This is the best way to learn to read Hebrew. Write the letter/vowel symbol on the front of the card and the name of the letter or vowel on the back. Don’t start a new lesson until you remember the flashcards from the previous lesson!!! 4. Not all examples given in class will be actual Hebrew words. However, sometimes a point can be better made by making a word out of different Hebrew letters and vowels.

5. We read Hebrew from right to left. This means that the word you read first goes from the letter to the right of the word. Then look below or near the letter to the right to add a vowel to the syllable.

6. When you translate – write a letter or word using the corresponding letters of the alphabet or another language – from Hebrew to English, there are always some changes. For example, the Hebrew letter א is often written as ALOF AND ALOF. There is no wrong answer, but some interpretations are more common than others.
