How To Turn Your Tv Into A Touch Screen – If you’ve always wanted to turn your TV into a giant touchscreen, the Touchjet Wave is an Indiegogo campaign you’ll want to check out.
The gadget, which promises to turn any “dumb” TV into an Android tablet, plans to raise $100,000 and plans to start shipping units next March to the earliest backers.
How To Turn Your Tv Into A Touch Screen
In a nutshell, it’s a small Android device that attaches to the top of your TV and uses infrared to detect finger movements and thus activate touchscreen functionality. And since it uses infrared, no user data is captured, which could make it more appealing to anyone concerned about their data privacy.

For the device to work, you need an HDMI input and a screen between 20 inches and 60 inches capable of 720p / 1080p at 50 / 60Hz, or 4K resolution at 24, 25 or 30Hz.
The Touchjet Wave itself features a quad-core ARM 9 Cortext A9 2.0GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, and multi-touch support for up to four points at the same time.
An infrared pen is included, and an “Air Mouse” can be purchased at an additional cost. We have asked to see how much these will be.

For anyone worried about getting dirty fingerprints all over their TV, you don’t need to come in contact with the screen to register your button presses, you just need to be close to the screen.
If you’re keen – and quick – you can get an Early Bird Wave for $99, with shipping scheduled for March of next year. The next tier is $119 for one Don, and the cheapest pledge to get a two-Don bundle is $189.

This clip-on device for a TV that pairs via Bluetooth with a joystick-style QWERTY keyboard sounds complicated, but it’s far from it. Archo’s latest Apple TV challenger won’t win any design awards, but as a £99/$130 gadget that puts an Android smartphone experience on a TV, Archo’s TV Connect might have legs.
It may have been invented for smartphones and tablets, but Google’s Android operating system has been used in everything from smartwatches and cameras to in-car technology and 3D glasses. But what about the humble television?
If Your Siri Remote Or Apple Tv Remote Isn’t Working
LG is about to release an all-in-one Google TV that’s partially based on Android (with more to come thanks to its webOS purchase), but few will drop big bucks for it; then go for the TV Connect set top box from Archos.
The Archos TV Connect aims to turn your TV into a smartphone with a single swipe, and is about the same size – as well as price – of the Apple TV. Of course, it’s on the other side of the fence in terms of the operating system, and it shows positively in the larger ambitions of Archos TV Connect as much as negatively in its rather plastic build quality.
Fully certified by Google, the Archos TV Connect is similar in design to Kinect in that it attaches to the top of any HD TV (the caveat is that it must be 1080p capable). Connecting via HDMI and having Wi-Fi and wired LAN internet, it seems to grip the frame pretty well and seems stable and relatively unobtrusive.

It includes an 8GB Flash drive (though expandable to 32GB with a microSD card slot), a webcam and microphone, so Skype and its ilk are on the menu.
Although it offers a fully open Android experience similar to that of a smartphone or tablet, bringing smartphone games to TV may be the core of Archos TV Connect.
That’s the tip of the second part of TV Connect: the TV Touch remote control. A gamepad in appearance, but with a QWERTY keyboard on the bottom and an accelerometer inside, it’s quite a handful in more ways than one.

In something unusual – and certainly something to do with cost cutting – the controller features analogue joysticks on each side instead of touchscreen gestures. In practice, this means pinching your thumbs together when you want to zoom in on Google Maps – something we experimented with during our demo – to mimic what you’d do when using smartphone.
The alternative would have been to include a touchscreen to allow “real” tapping, pinching and zooming, which would have at least doubled the price of the TV Link. The gamepad is the weak point of the product, as it does not feel natural and takes time to get used to.
But there are other choices; The Archos Remote Control app works with TV Connect, and any CEC-spec (general specification for control) remote will do a similar job.
How To Connect Your Macbook To Samsung Tv In Different Ways
Meanwhile, the on-screen Android experience is navigated by that controller’s cursor, which works in much the same way as LG’s Magic Remote. With the two pieces of hardware connected via low power Bluetooth, it’s a pure Android 4.1 Jelly Bean experience from now on, with TV Connect offering full access to Google Play apps.
And we mean every app, including the ability to download from your browser of choice (Chrome seemed easy enough to navigate, with simple keyboard text input), catch-up TV like BBC iPlayer, YouTube and things like Facebook, Twitter and anything. Android app for any video call.
One of TV Connect’s main claims is the Archos Media Center, which has long been proficient with several video and music file formats. That does not change here, and it becomes completely similar to a NAS device by monitoring the contents of a specific folder before sending files – as they appear – to TV Connect.
Samsung’s The Wall
Could TVConnect be a challenger to Apple TV? No, probably not (Archos has tried this before with the Archos TV +), and to call it a nemesis is perhaps a little too generous on TV Connect.
However, it’s a good idea and sure to get some support from those looking to create a cheap Android ecosystem at home.
Archo’s TV Connect will have a lot of competition from another Android-powered streamer, Netgear’s NeoTV Prime, which is also included in Google TV – and many more to follow – but this is an affordable gadget with a feel limitless, if a bit DIY.
