Changing the toilet fill valve etc. If your toilet isn’t flushing, it’s making a lot of noise, isn’t filling properly, or it’s failing, you may need to replace the toilet water valve. The fill valve is the part of the toilet tank that controls the flow of water into and out of the toilet bowl. Changing it isn’t difficult, but it can seem scary. To help you out, here’s a step-by-step tutorial with photos on how to replace a toilet fill valve.

Of course, you must remove all parts of the mount, including the o-ring if applicable. This may require a meniscus wrench. It is a counterclockwise twist from the ground looking up.

Once the mounting nut is removed, it will now be easier to remove the old valve from the tank. So do it.

Ways To Reduce Toilet Water Use

Removing the old fill valve mechanism releases all the excess water that wasn’t flushed out from the original flushing, so keep the bucket in place.

At this point, you will have an open hole from the old fill valve at the bottom of your toilet tank.

Depending on your fill valve model, your instructions may vary slightly from this tutorial at this point. But for this model of fill valve, it’s time to connect the pipe to the valve opening. Push it in firmly, making sure it’s covered all the way.

Now it’s time to set the water fill depth on your new valve. Turn the top of the valve counterclockwise (looking at it) to open it from the base tube, then pull up until it is fully extended.

When it is in the fully expanded position, set the valve on the tank as if you were going to fully install it. (You don’t, at least not yet.) Press down on the top of the valve until the corner of the cover on the top of the valve is up to your toilet’s fill line or water fill or flush valve line.

When both (valve corner and water line) are lined up, pull the new valve out of the tank. Keeping the new height stable, turn the top of the valve clockwise. You will hear a click or snap. Lock the valve from this point. After locking, place the valve back into the tank so that the hose points directly to (or above) the flush valve. Double check to make sure the corner and water line still line up.

Install the mounting nut under the tank that holds the new valve. Make sure the curved side of the mounting nut is facing up.

Use your hand to tighten it (avoid bending with the wrench as it will damage the entire valve).

Gently bend the tube down so the end lines up with the metal clip. Cut the pipe if necessary so that the pipe has a smooth, untwisted bend. This tutorial requires cutting more than half of the original tube. This is fine; A smooth passage of the hose from the valve fitting to the metal clip on the flush valve is critical.

Under the tank, reconnect the water supply line to the new valve. Tighten using your hand and avoid using a wrench.

Flush the toilet several times and check for normal water flow and no leaks in three key areas: the water supply connection at the bottom of the tank, the flush valve from the new valve pipe, and the critical position of the new valve in the water line (or rather, the bottom).

Replacing Old Shutoff Valves

If you’ve tested three spots for leaks and proper water flow, congratulations! Your toilet fill valve replacement has been successful and you should be ready to use your “new” toilet worry-free. Is your toilet clogged with toilet paper? There is nothing more frustrating than flushing the toilet and watching the water level rise in the bowl. A paper-clogged toilet is one of the most common types of toilet clogs. It’s easy to accidentally clog the toilet by using too much toilet paper in one sitting. This leads to occlusion in the S-curve. If you use expensive, three- or four-ply toilet paper, you’re more likely to clog the toilet because it doesn’t break as easily as thinner brands. Fortunately, a toilet paper-blocked toilet is one of the quickest and easiest clogs that can be fixed without hiring a plumber.

The first thing you need to do is turn off the water supply to the toilet using the shutoff valve. This step is especially important if the water level in the bowl continues to rise. In most cases, you can locate the shutoff valve by following the metal threaded pipe attached to the tank. The valve is usually located close to the wall. If it doesn’t, check behind the tank. Once you locate the valve, turn it clockwise.

Since the toilet can be messy and unsanitary, it is important to prepare yourself by wearing protective clothing such as rubber gloves and goggles if possible. Remove items you don’t want to spoil, such as bathtubs or potted plants near the toilet. Have some old towels and a bucket ready.

Be sure to wear protective clothing, such as rubber gloves, when unclogging a toilet paper-clogged toilet.

The best way to remove a toilet paper clog from a toilet is to use a plunger. There are two main types of plungers – a cup plunger and a flange plunger. A toilet clog requires the latter because there is an extra lip inside the cup that helps create a tight seal around the drain opening. If the toilet is too full, use a bucket to remove excess water. Do not remove all the water, as some water will increase the pressure applied to the seal.

Insert the plunger into the toilet and close the entire drain opening. A tight seal is required to unclog a blocked toilet. Keep the plunger vertical and start bouncing up and down using powerful movements. It creates pressure, pushes and pulls until it jams. Continue until the blockage is cleared. This can take up to 10 minutes, sometimes more.

Since toilet paper clogs are considered small in nature, you can clear a toilet paper clog without a plunger. Pouring hot water and soap into the bowl is a few methods to speed up the breakdown process. You can also use an expanded metal coat hanger. We describe these techniques in more detail here.
