How Long To Microwave A Potato
To be honest, I didn’t know I could microwave potatoes until I was in college.
My cousin showed me the secret to making perfect microwave potatoes, and now I’m sharing them with you! I’ve been making it this way for literally years.
I’ve tried peeling the potatoes with a fork before cooking and skipping this step entirely. I don’t think it matters.
Easiest Microwave Baked Potato Recipe
I was afraid that if I didn’t touch it it would explode, but I stopped it for years and never had a potato explosion. I have cooked a bazillion of these, even several potatoes at once, and they have never exploded.
Next, get a sheet of wax paper and wrap the potatoes completely. This is my big secret because wax paper does an amazing job of keeping your potatoes moist without getting dirty.
Most microwaves have a “potato” button to make microwaveable potatoes. If yours doesn’t, I recommend starting with 5 minutes for 1 potato, 10 minutes for 2, and 12-13 minutes for 3 potatoes.

In my experience, if you are using large or large potatoes (which I usually use as potato bread), adding more than 3 potatoes just takes longer.
