Finishing Concrete With Rock Salt – Salt-faced concrete is made using different types of salt crystals. Halite is one of the most common salt crystals used in salt-finished concrete.
Concrete made using rock salt crystals is called rock salt veneer concrete. Rock salt is also known as Halite. Rock salt is formed from sodium chloride (NaCl).
Finishing Concrete With Rock Salt
Rock salt finished concrete is an easy and inexpensive way to decorate a concrete surface, and it provides a wonderful aesthetic to the concrete surface.
Concrete Polishing Finishes
This is done by pushing coarse salt or additional rock salt over the surface of the fresh concrete, allowing the concrete to set, then washing the salt off with a stream.
Rock salt finished concrete is smooth and broom finished concrete, but it is slip resistant, making it a better and better material for pool decks.
It not only allows people to travel safely but also facilitates the easy movement of food carts, vehicles and more.
Rock salt concrete is mainly used in swimming pools, gardens, backyards and parking lots.

The preparation of rock salt facing concrete is similar to normal concrete. The main work of rock salt facing concrete begins after placing fresh concrete on the formwork.
Smooth the surface using a hand or grass float that provides a high-quality surface finish. Now do the following steps,
Halite is a salt crystal used mainly in salt-treated concrete. Allow the concrete placed on the formwork to dry until you press your thumb against the concrete and no concrete paste or gray matter is attached.
If the concrete paste sticks to your thumb, let it dry a little more. Now, if you don’t have concrete grout attached to your thumb, rock salt crystals will spread over the concrete surface in concentrations of 3 to 12 pounds per 100 square feet.

With the help of a drag, salt roller or float (hand or bull), salt crystals are sprinkled on the concrete and then embedded in the concrete by pressing. Those salt crystals are only half that diameter.
Now gently clean the concrete surface with the help of a broom. Now, let the concrete surface dry for 24 hours. This whole process is called salting.
At the end of 24 hours, the concrete where the salt crystals were deposited was washed off with the help of water. The water and salt must be mixed completely or partially, leaving behind persistent crystals and washed off with high-speed water and a brush.
The concrete is completely dry, so you can apply water directly to the concrete without any tension. The crystalline salt leaves a shallow dot pattern on the concrete, creating a fine texture on the concrete surface.
Rock Salt Finish Concrete
Allow the concrete to dry completely before applying the sealer. Use a broom to clean the concrete without getting dust.
A sealant is applied with a roller so that the sealant is fully applied to the concrete surface.
Once dry, apply a sealant within 2-3 hours and apply a second coat in the same manner as the first coat.
6. The surface should be smooth, and the marks left should be marked with a salt roller or a float.

8. If the concrete surface is wet or too dry, it will provide a poor quality concrete finish.
9. Rock salt crystals should be thoroughly washed and cleaned with a broom, otherwise colored concrete will be discolored.
10. Sealant must be carefully applied in two coats or moisture/moisture will be trapped in it.
