Equivalent Fractions How To Solve – Here you will find useful support in learning what equal parts are and how to find equal parts.
We also have an equivalent Fractions page to help you practice and demonstrate your understanding of this concept.
Equivalent Fractions How To Solve
At the bottom of this page are three printable resource sheets that explain the same part in more detail.
Ex 7.3, 1
It is very important to find similar fractions before trying to add or subtract fractions with different denominators.
Half is worth half of the whole. If each part is divided into two equal parts, we will divide the whole part into 4 equal parts with the fourth part.
Each half is divided into two quarters (two of the 4 parts are shaded), so we have equal parts:
How To Solve Fraction Questions In Math: 10 Steps (with Pictures)
If the half is divided into three equal parts instead of 2, we get a shade (numerator) with 3 strips from a total of 6 strips (denominator), giving the part three quarters.
We can repeat this by dividing the same half by 4, 5, 6, etc., and we end up with:
It also makes sense in a situation where, for example, if you got 5 out of 10 or five-tenths correct on a spelling test, you get half of the answers right and half of them wrong.
Addition Of Fractions Using A Visual Model
If the thirds are divided into two equal parts, the total is 6 shades of 4, so we now have 4 of 6 instead of 2 of 3.
In other words, we doubled the number of shaded parts (the numerator) and doubled the number of parts (the denominator).
It can be repeated and two-thirds can be divided equally.
Step By Step Guide To Solve Equivalent Fractions Maths Questions
Whenever a fraction is divided, the numerator and denominator are multiplied by the division. This gives us an equal share.
In other words, if you multiply the numerator and denominator by the same number, you get the same (or similar) fraction.
And using the same logic, if the numerator and denominator are divided by the same number, you get the same fraction.
How To Teach Equivalent Fractions With Math Manipulatives
We found that if you multiply or divide the numerator and denominator of a fraction by the same number, you get the same fraction.
If you want to see all this in more detail, print the 3 sheets below that will tell you everything you need to know about the same part.

Multiplying and subtracting fractions with different numbers is an important learning step that your child should be familiar with before they start learning to add and subtract fractions.
You can search for equivalent parts in the Equivalence Lab or test your knowledge of equivalent parts using the play area.

If you are a regular user of our site and appreciate what we do, please consider a small donation to help us with our costs. Adding and subtracting like fractions is nothing more than a simple arithmetic operation. After checking that the denominators are all the same, the rest is adding or subtracting to our numerator. The denominators tell us if we can add or subtract directly.
Comparing Fractions Worksheet
When we talk about denominators, we are dealing with equal parts (also called like fractions) and different parts (or unlike fractions). I have discussed similar and different parts in my previous post. For those who want a review, check out my article titled “Types of Segments”.
In this lesson, I will present a basic procedure (steps) on how to add or subtract such fractions. Various examples are followed to help you understand it better.
Step 1 Look at the denominators. All denominators are equal to 5 so we can proceed to step 2.
Ways To Multiply Fractions With Whole Numbers
Step 4 Add whole numbers. Since we don’t have mixed numbers, we can skip this step.
Step 5 is to convert our answer to the shortest possible time frame. Since 4/5 is the shortest period, 4/5 is the final answer.
Example no. Let’s look at another example of multiplying 5 as fractions. This time we will add the right part and the wrong part. We follow the same process.

Example no. 6 Let’s add mixed numbers. The easiest way to add mixed numbers is to add them according to our method. Add proper fractions and add whole numbers. See the example below.
Example no. 7 However, there are some problems when after adding a suitable part the product is a wrong part. A mixed number must contain only one whole number and a proper part. If the partner of a whole number is an improper part, you must convert the improper part into a mixed number and add the whole number. See the example below.
Note: 7/5 is not a proper fraction. A mixed number must contain a proper part and a whole number. So, we need to convert it to a mixed number.
Solve The Following Problems. Given The Fractions 13/45 And 22/75 And Write Their Equivalent Fractions With The Same Denominators And Add Them
In this problem, it is better to convert mixed numbers into improper fractions and add according to our method to avoid confusion. Let’s solve example number 7 again.
For me, it is much easier than before. But, whatever technique you use will give you the correct answer.
Example no. 8 We can also add mixed numbers and proper fractions. The procedure is the same as Example No. 6.
Equivalent Fractions Explained—definitions, Examples, Worksheets — Mashup Math
If the result is more than one after adding the correct fraction, follow the procedure in Example No. 7. Let’s look at another example.
Dealing with adding similar parts is very simple. You need to make sure that the denominators are the same so that you can continue adding the numbers.
Adding fractions works the same way as adding fractions. The only difference is how you deal with withdrawal.
Fraction Comparison To Solve Hard Fraction Problems
Example no. 12 We can also have negative fractions as answers. Negative fractions are fractions that are less than zero.
Example No.14 In this example, we are subtracting the same mixed number from the fraction. This becomes easier if we convert the mixed number to an improper fraction and continue our process.
1. To add or subtract as a fraction, add or subtract all the numerators and duplicate the number. Then, change the answer into short sentences or mixed numbers.

2. To add or subtract a mixed number with an even number, first convert the mixed number to an improper fraction. Then, add or subtract the number and duplicate the number. Include your answer in short sentences or mixed numbers.

Let’s quickly recall how to form equal parts and how to simplify them using the following two examples.
Equivalent Fractions Made Easy
And as the Monterey Institute points out, the way we get a common denominator is to create equal fractions.
The nice thing is that the LCD uses the same process as finding the Least Common Multiple (LCM), but only for the number in the denominator. This means that we already know what to do.
Fortunately, we have already converted these two fractions into equal fractions 5/20 and 8/20 after finding common ground, so all we have to do is learn their numbers.

Since 5 is less than 8, we know that 5/20 is less than 8/20, so 1/4 is less than 2/5.
You want to convert a mixed number to an improper fraction by multiplying the number by the whole number and adding the numerator, and then follow the steps listed above.
First, we write the mixed number 5 and 1/2 as an improper fraction of 11/2 using a technique we learned in the video Improper Mixed Fractions.
Ways To Add And Simplify Fractions
Next, we find the LCD by first finding the LCM of the denominators to create a common denominator.
And since 28 is less than 33, then 28/6 is less than 33/6, so 14/3 is less than 5 and 1/2.
In the video below, we
